What are Knowledge Modules?

Knowledge Modules:

KM are referred as Code Template which helps in overall Data Integration Process with the help of the Metadata from Interface and Models Km Executes Relevent Code Generated by ODI .

There are predefined set of KM which covers almost all the DB types and scenario in ODI .KM are Customizable so no need to fear if there is any KM Missing for DB or Scenario.

KM are classified in following types

ETL VS ELT

what is the difference between ETL and ELT ?

ETL
The transformations are processed by the ETL tools (Informatica , Datastage etc) while in ELT the transformations are processed by the target datasources (RDBMS). I guess that the rising scalability of databases allows this kind of data integration to be possible.
So the important thing to remember is the side where the transformations are processed.
I made the following schema to help remember the difference :

ELT

What Is Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) ?

Oracle Data Integrator (ODI):

Oracle’s ELT tool, is a unique next-generation, Extract Load and Transform (E-LT) technology that improves performance and reduces data integration costs even across heterogeneous systems. It can be used to extract data from a variety of data sources (relational databases, flat files, etc.), perform complex data transformations, and load data into a variety of target data stores (data warehouses, application databases, flat files, etc.).  ODI can be used to support a variety of data integration projects, including the following:
  •     Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing
  •     Data Migrations and Data Consolidations
  •     Master Data Management
